FREE EVALUATION OF YOUR CHILD'S
MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Psychological Testing Services InternationalSM is developing a test for children ages 4 through 18 that potentially can give information about how the child sees her or himself in terms of being valuable and competent; how the child generally feels about life and the world around her or him; and how she or he views parents and other adults as to being supportive, structuring and dependable. Essentially, it is a "mental health check-up" for your child. What is particularly unique about this test is that it is administered over the Internet to the child by you, the parent, in the comfort and privacy of your home.

In order to have a meaningful test, we need the responses of hundreds of children so that we can discover what are typical answers. Thus, we're offering the "check-up" for free for your participation.

The test is called the Parent Administered Child Test (the PACTTM) and involves you having your child tell a story to seven pictures provided to you here depicting a day in the life of a little girl or boy. This follows one of the most well established and thoroughly researched approaches to understanding the "inner world" of children. Indeed, fantasy is your child's natural language to communicate his or her deepest thoughts, feelings and view of life. It is through our children's fantasies that we can know their truths. Clearly, no single test can reveal all there is to know about your child's inner world. Nonetheless, the PACTTM is intended as a good starting point. The whole test takes about ten to fifteen minutes to do and it's actually fun!

The results will be e-mailed to you once we have a sufficient number of responses to know what is typical.

Given that this is a research project to help develop norms for a new assessment tool, the service is absolutely free for the first two hundred girls and boys of each ethnic group - African-American, Asian, Caucasian and Hispanic - and is completely confidential (we won't even know your child's name). By the way, if you have more than one child between the ages 4 and 18, you are welcome to submit a PACTTM for all of them.

Since this is a formal research project, we do need you to read and agree to the following before the PACTTM is administered to your child:

I hereby give my consent for my child to participate as a subject in a research project entitled, "Norm Development for the Parent Administered Child Test." I understand that this project is being conducted by Yanon Volcani, Ph.D., Gary Stollak, Ph.D., and Constance Dalenberg, Ph.D., of Psychological Testing Services InternationalSM.

I understand that I will be showing my child seven pictures, asking her/him to tell a story to each one and answer some other questions about what is depicted, and typing my child's response in the provided space. If my child is an adolescent and wishes to type in their own responses, I hereby am giving my permission for them to do so.

I understand that participation in this study is completely voluntary - I will not be charged a fee nor will I be compensated. I also understand that my child and I can withdraw from the study at any time, without any penalty.

I understand that this project is not expected to involve risks of harm any greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life. I also understand that it is not possible to identify all potential risks in any procedure, but that all reasonable safeguards have been taken to minimize the potential risks.

I understand that the data I am submitting will be coded in such a manner so that my child's identity will not be known. Indeed, I will not be asked for my child's or my own name. I understand that the results of this research may be published or reported within the scientific community, but that my email address will not be associated in any way with published or presented results.

I understand that I can address any questions I may have about this project to the Project Director, Yanon Volcani, Ph.D., through e-mail or by phone at 858-459-5557.

PLEASE NOTE: This study is designed to meet the Educational and Ethical Standards set forth by the American Psychological Association Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (1992).

I have read and agree to the above consent form and hereby give my permission for my child to participate in this study by proceeding to the instruction page of the PACTTM (CLICK HERE).
